Taylor Geter, Shreveport Park Shooting: Taylor Passed Away After Deadly Fight
On April 26, a shooting occurred at Waterside Park in the 200 block of East Dudley Drive in Shreveport, turning an ordinary evening near a basketball court into a fatal incident.
Police with the Shreveport Police Department responded after reports of gunfire and found Geter suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin area. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, but he was later pronounced dead at 11:41 p.m., according to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office. His identity was confirmed through fingerprint identification, and an autopsy has been ordered.
Investigators say the incident followed an earlier physical altercation between two adult men, which had already ended before the shooting occurred. Authorities believed the situation was initially resolved, but it quickly escalated again.
Police allege that a 15-year-old boy, the brother of one of the men involved in the earlier fight, intervened afterward. Investigators say the teen pulled out a firearm and shot Geter, resulting in the fatal injury.
The suspect, a minor whose name has not been released, was taken into custody and is facing charges connected to the killing. Authorities are still working to understand what led to his involvement and the decision to use a weapon.
Geter’s death marks Shreveport’s 18th homicide of the year, adding to growing concern in the community.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives gather witness statements and review evidence. Police are also asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
What began as a disturbance at a public park ultimately ended in tragedy, leaving the community reflecting on how quickly conflict can escalate into irreversible loss.
